The June solstice – your signal to celebrate summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere – is happening on June 21st – today. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, this solstice marks the longest day of the year. Early dawns, long days, late sunsets, short nights. The sun at its height each day, as it crosses the sky. Meanwhile, in the south of the equator, winter begins.
The summer solstice symbolizes the ascension found in many great spiritual teachings. At the spring equinox, the resurrection and return of the Son/sun to the Mother goddess is celebrated. Following this, the summer solstice symbolizes the return/ascension to the Great Father Spirit.
Almost every culture across the globe has marked this day in their own way since the beginning of time and our ancestors around the earth built numerous monuments to commemorate this time. There is no doubt that the summer solstice marks an important moment on the seasonal & spiritual cycle.
The summer solstice is aligned with the element of fire, passion, will & drive. This is the time to seek the right action, to choose to walk in alignment with your beliefs. It is the time for you to look at the scope of your life and spiritual path and take note of what is out of alignment. What things do you do that does not serve your personal and spiritual growth? The solstice gives you the opportunity to pause for a minute, a window to step into the personal power you have nurtured this past year. See what you have gained. Maybe a new habit, a new relationship, a new way of being in your body.
The summer solstice teaches us patience. We can’t hurry things, but if we just relax and let go, things will fall into place effortlessly. The seeds have been planted and now it is time to let nature take its course.
So now, it is time to give thanks to and enjoy the warm sun… Have an excellent summer.
