Do you feel like it is hard to get up and get going some days? Do you feel the anxiety or sadness creep in? Do you find hard to find things to be happy about? All of us do from time to time. But if we keep a few tips and tricks up our sleeve, it gets easier to overcome those feelings that pull us down.
It might seem hard to stop thinking about things that worry you sometimes. Nevertheless, it is not impossible. You can do it, and I am here to help you with crushing your blues by providing you with a few tools that I hope you will find useful.
When you are sad, you need human interaction. Call or get together with a friend or a family member and share your feelings with them. Go where the action is, find a meetup group that shares your interests, connect with new people, get to know them, talk to them. Join an art class or better yet a dance class.
Physical activity stimulates the release of dopamine, norepinephrine, and more importantly serotonin – the happiness hormone. These brain chemicals play an important part in regulating your mood. Therefore; get moving. Walk around the block or at the closest trail, go for a bike ride, or find a yoga video on YouTube. Raising your levels of serotonin boosts your mood and overall sense of well-being.
Singing is another way of resetting the mind. Sing your heart out to your favourite song. Watch a comedy movie. Think about something that you are grateful for and compassionate about. Practice a random act of kindness and see the joyful and positive energy that it creates.
To summarize, move your focus from the saddening thoughts towards uplifting ones. Change your scenery, smile, be active, laugh out loud, help someone, go to bed tired at night which will give you a better sleep. Easier said than done I know, but please try to stop thinking about the negative stuff all the time. Don’t worry, be happy.
