I’m not sure whether or not we appreciate enough the meaning of the word “Connection.” We, human beings, need, crave, and blossom by connections. Therefore, it’s essential to have a significant number of healthy connections to live a balanced and fulfilling life. Author Brené Brown describes the word connection best in her book “The Gifts of Imperfection” as;
“…the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
With this one sentence, she perfectly summarizes how much connecting could mean and do for you.
Learning to live with minimum in-person interaction
I don’t know about you, but I feel like, last few months, we all had a crash course about the importance of being and staying connected to our loved ones and our community. We have opened our eyes to a world where spending time with even close friends and family got interrupted until further notice. All of a sudden, social media platforms and Zoom became the environments to satisfy our hunger for connecting with others.
Of course, virtually talking to someone is not the same as having them in front of you. You miss the body language and facial mimics, but it’s still something. And as we humans do about everything in life, we also are getting used to this way of communication pretty fast.
If even my 92-year-old mother-in-law could get familiar with using Skype to talk to us, it means that video calls are becoming our new norm.
How about connecting with ourselves?
Yes, it’s great to connect with new people, learn from and support each other. But what about connecting with nature? What about connecting with our inner self? Sometimes in our daily lives, we forget connecting with both. Making an effort to meditate in a quiet place, preferably in nature, is as important as connecting with other people, if not more.
While trying to keep your connection with your community intact, are you spending enough time and effort to maintain your communication with your inner child and the mother earth? Because those two connections are the ones that keep us aligned, centred and recharged. They are the two constants of our lives. Two biggest sources of energy, love and light.
When we skip connecting with our inner being, our connections with others might lack meaning and substance. They might feel superficial, fake and forced. On the other hand, being our true self could create opportunities to connect with like-minded people. And that could only happen if we get quiet and listen to what our inner voice tells us.
Create the best connection you can have with yourself and nature. Because only then could you create the best connections with others.
